Now With A Lil' Bit of Hemp Oil

I have to admit that when I was first Introduced to CBD, I was skeptical. Immediately I just associated it with marijuana. Then I kept hearing Joe Rogan talk about all the health benefits of CBD and I started to do some research. Depending on what you read, CBD can do everything from improving your mood to curing cancer, which is incredibly confusing. As we get ready to roll out our Nitro Hemp Oil Cold Brew, I wanted to share what I have personally learned using CBD and try to demystify the product.

WHAT IS CBD (aka cannabidiol, hemp oil, hemp extract oil, phytocannabinoid oil)

Cannabidiol (CBD) is one of over 85 chemical compounds found in cannabis, known as cannabinoids. But before I go any further, we need to discuss the cannabis family as this is where there is a lot of confusion and misunderstanding about regulation. Cannabidiol is found in, and can be extracted from, marijuana or hemp. While these two often get lumped together, they are very different. Marijuana contains high amounts of THC, the psychoactive compound that gets you high, while hemp contains less than 0.3% THC. This is why marijuana is a Schedule I Drug and hemp is an agricultural/industrial crop. In short, you don’t smoke hemp to get high, but you do use hemp in products like body care, clothing, food, automobiles, etc. For all my coffee friends, lumping hemp and marijuana together because they are part of the cannabis family would be like saying Arabica and Robusta are the same thing because they are both in the Rubiaceae family.

Hemp also contains higher amounts of cannabidiol and is much easier to grow, making it a very viable agricultural crop. Since recreational marijuana is not legal in Texas, we use the term “Hemp Oil” so that it is very clear that our product is produced from Hemp and does not contain THC in any discernible amount. The Agricultural Act of 2014 (aka The Farm Bill) allows for the cultivation, processing and marketing of hemp and hemp products. Just go to any Whole Foods and you’ll find a plethora of products containing hemp. Or visit Amazon and spend a couple hours looking through thousands of hemp products. I do think it is worth pointing out that hemp seed oil and hemp oil are two totally different products, but that’s for another blog.

SO HOW DOES IT WORK?

The human body naturally creates endocannabinoids and contains cannabinoid receptors (CB receptors) in the brain, central nervous system and immune system. This endocannabinoid system has been found to contribute to functions such as appetite, pain, sensation, mood, memory, immune system functions and inflammation control.

I’M A BELIEVER

I’ve been taking hemp oil for almost a year now and while I can’t say that I have experienced improved mental clarity or mood improvement, I can say that I have experienced physical benefits. I am firm believer in the anti-inflammatory properties and that it aids in post workout recovery. This Hemp Oil Nitro Cold Brew is a product for me and anyone else who wants the clean energy of all-natural caffeine, combined with the benefits of hemp oil, infused with nitrogen all in one can.

I encourage everyone to do their own research about hemp and CBD. One of my favorite web sites so far is: https://ministryofhemp.com
