Even the world's best coffee, skillfully roasted by an artisan, can be destroyed in seconds at the hands of an untrained barista. Professional barista training can help you avoid disaster.
Our espresso labs are designed to provide you with all of the tools to ensure that your customers are getting the finest drinks possible. Class is limited to four students to ensure personal instruction and lots of hands on, practical application. Labs are taught by coffee professionals, including championship barista, certified United States Barista Championship and World Barista Championship judges.
In the class you will learn both fundamental and advanced skills including:
- Grinding
- Dosing
- Tamping
- Proper Extraction
- Milk Steaming/Texturing
- Free Pouring and Latte Art
- Drink Building
- Espresso Equipment Maintenance

Classes are offered every Friday, excluding holidays. The labs start promptly at 10am and finish at 4pm, with a short lunch break and food provided by Cuvee Coffee. The cost of the class is $275 per person and advanced registration and payment is required. All cancellations must be made 48 hours prior to the lab and we do not offer refunds, but will offer the opportunity to participate on a later date.
Training Testimonials
"Training at Cuvee Coffee opened my eyes to the world of specialty coffee and espresso. I was surprised by the nuances of the coffee and I was so intrigued that I decided to pursue a career in coffee. Even though I only went through the one day training class I've found that Mike, Dan and Clancy, have always been willing and eager to answer my questions, as I have progressed over the past two years. They are great people with great coffee. I don't know what else to say, they have been a tremendous resource for me and for everyone in coffee in Texas."

"The quality of instruction at Cuvee's Barista Training classes is top-notch. Clancy Rose and Dan Streetman taught me simple techniques that helped me improve the quality and consistency of both my espresso shots and steamed milk in ways that were easy to understand and made everything suddenly "click" for me. The barista class allows plenty of time for valuable hands-on practice and is well worth the cost. We're very lucky to have such talented trainers available to us here in Central Texas!"

"Having just purchased my first home espresso machine, I was a novice at the art and craft of drink building. So I scoured the web for as many tutorials and how-to videos as I could find on the subject. These were helpful, but nothing like the full day, hands-on experience I had at Cuvee's barista training class. Coffee engages each of the senses, and so did this class, covering all aspects of the practice, from dosing to drink building. The small class size made for an intimate and rewarding experience, and Clancy's aptitude and dedication were impressive. While there is no substitute for experience in becoming a pro barista, this class lays a solid foundation toward that end. It was a fun and informative day, and I recommend the class without reservation to anyone who is serious about mastering their craft"

"I first met one my trainer, Silence, at this year's World Barista Championship in Atlanta, GA. Being a coffee enthusiast (not professional...yet) I was very excited to see the elites, battle it out on the stage in front of the world.
After greetings and some talks, I decided that going to the training at Cuvee Coffee in Austin, TX. would be ideal for me, since I do not work in a professional coffee environment, on top of that, they are a roastery! At Cuvee, I was able to learn the basics and some of the more advanced techniques in making a good cup of coffee. From knowing the beans, grinding, dosing, tamping, extracting, frothing, and free pouring, every steps was taking with great care and precise. I didn't know a couple of seconds off in extraction would change the taste of coffee so much! Dan and Silence took me around Austin after the training to visit some of their customers, Caffe Medici, and Once Over. These two well known Austin cafes made me realize with top notch coffee and training, and enthusiastic staff, you don't need fancy names and menus to be successful in the coffee industry. I went back to Caffe Medici off of W. Lynn by myself before I left for home one last time, and overheard a customer giving kudos to the Barista and telling her how much he loves the coffeehouse and Cuvee's coffee. With this training I am now more confident and ready to take the next step, finding my own little spot to make and share great coffee! Thanks to Dan and Silence for the time and patience, and the tour in Austin."

"My experience at Cuvee was really helpful for learning new techniques, solidifying old ones, and fixing bad habits. Learning new terminology and concepts helped give me a better understanding of what can all-too-easily become auto-pilot, and becoming more mindful provides me more job security."

"It’s taken a lot of hard work and late nights but we have opened our own coffee shop and have had nothing but compliments since we have opened. Still have miles to go to do anything compared to you guys but I think and hope that we have established something great in our little town. It would have been impossible without your help and training. I cannot thank you enough for your hospitality and services. Will be heading up this year for ACL and if you ever want to party on the border let us know and you all are more then welcome anytime! Pics will soon follow and thank you again for everything."

"I really enjoyed barista training at Cuvee Coffee. I wanted to improve my coffee experience at home so I signed up. The trainers I had were very knowledgeable and patient. I learned how to tamp and dose properly and we went thru a lot of milk (they let me drink my mistakes…in order to learn, of course) I have a Silvia unit at home and it was easy to transfer what I learned, from Cuvee’s big La Marzocco to my machine. The whole experience has made our coffee making at home very enjoyable and I’m able to tweak the tempter or the grind or dose to get great espresso without freakin’ out. Thanks a fun and learning experience."
