The Specialty Coffee Association of America presents the 2008 South Central Regional Barista Competition and Southwest Regional Barista Competition. This event is being hosted hosted by Cuvee Coffee Roasting Company.  Competition will take place October 31st – November 2nd at the Radisson Town Lake in Austin, Texas.

In the United States, professional baristas compete within their region in hopes of winning the regional title, which guarantees them a spot in the Specialty Coffee Association of America’s United States Barista Championship (USBC) event semifinals round. The winner of the 2008 SCRBC & SWRBC will travel to Portland, Oregon, to compete in the USBC in March of 2009. More than 50 baristas are expected to compete in that intense competition for the national title and the chance to represent the United States at the tenth annual World Barista Championship in Atlanta, Georgia.  The WBC is being held in conjunction with the SCAA conference in May 2009.
